    CMP carbine arrived

I popped for the Inland $495 service grade. It took about a month for it to arrive from mailing to arrival. Very, very nice metal and parkerizing, excellent bore, seems to be all or mostly Inland parts and probably the stock is the original Inland also but someone put some sort of nasty stain on it and used a pen knife to carve the slot for the sling and oiler larger. I stopped by Northridge International today and picked up a very nice unused birch M2 stock and handguard set for the carbine. Since the carbine has the later band and rear sight anyway the birch M2 wood looks really nice on it. Pictures to follow.

FYI, if you are not home when FedEx brings your CMP rifle you can have FedEx take it to the nearest Kinko's. They will hold it there for you so you can get it at a convenient time. I was never going to be home to sign for the carbine so having it taken to Kinko's worked out very well.

Thanks for the Kinko's advice. I may have to take advantage of that. Are you out of the doghouse yet for the carbine? I don't think you can go wrong with these CMP guns. The SG are fantastic for the money.

Pics? I just ordered an inland myself a couple of weeks ago.

The service grades are the best deal on the planet. I see mixmaster M1 rifles and carbines selling on Gunbroker for $700 to $800 when they can be purchased with a little effort from the CMP for a lot less and the CMP will take care of any problems you may have (within reason) with the firearm when you receive it. Mine came with a busted tab that holds the handguard to the receiver. They would've exchanged the handguard but I decided to get the birch stock and handguard set so no need to exchange it.

Regarding SWMBO; well...I have the money now to pay for it but I haven't really fessed up to having purchased the carbine. I'll have to do that soon. She's in a good mood with Christmas coming so I don't think there will be any fireworks over it.

As promised here are the pics of the carbine:

As received from the CMP. Note the opening up of the oil/sling slot.

With the M2 stock set from Northridge Int.

I'm happy with how it turned out!
