This old Type 99

Hey everyone,

I was doing some spring cleaning and found an old Type 99 barreled action with a gutted bolt. I had forgotten about it since I received it from a friend nearly 30 years ago. Back then, I couldn't find replacement parts so I just parked in a corner of my garage. Over time, old stocks and other long items gathered there and collected dust. The old saying, "Out of sight, out of mind" sure did ring true.

Now that I have it in front of me, I did some looking around and found enough parts to bring this old war horse back to life. It'll cost me more to rebuild this one than buying another one but I know I'll enjoy this path more.

If you find a good Type 38 stock while cleaning I would be interested. I have a rifle with one that has the end rotted off. I would like to make it whole and shootable again.

The Arisaka may not have the heavy following the Nagant, Garand, and Kar98 do, But it's an amazing rifle. Get out there and shoot it.

Actually, I do have one. I picked up a Type 38 rifle, thinking it was a shooter but it was demilled. Got burned thru the barrel and receiver in the chamber area so it's just a pile of parts now. Even the firing pin was snapped off but everything else is still good. Been looking for a T38 barreled action but no luck finding one yet.

Lucky for me, I was able to get one from a friend. He'll drop it off later next week. And, yes, uncut with hand guard.

Aw man... I looked at Hoosier and they don't have any stocks for any Arisaka. So sad cuz Liberty Tree sells Type 99 stocks for $145 each and nobody makes replacement stocks.

Hoosier can't list a fraction of what they have, hell, half the time Dave doesn't even know he has it, till he starts digging for it!

Does the bolt body and extractor match the receiver? What arsenal is it



I find it hard to believe someone would burn original Arisaka stocks, there is frequently someone looking for one. It would be like burning money.

If so it would be doubly bad as the finish is Urishi lacquer , related to and causes the same effect as poison ivy.

I tried taking close up pics but my cellphone can't do close ups. But from what I can see, it's an early 25th Series Kokura. Which is awesome! It's in this series the transitions were happening due to the war shortages. Like the metal butt plate being replaced with a wood version, the adjustable rear sight became a fixed sight, etc. Since mine is in the early 10% of this series, the parts I ordered would be period correct!

If you go on ebay there is alot of sportrized stocks for decent prices you can maybe splice a piece of wood in. If you know how to splice wood.

I actually thought of that too but with a broken front end. Unfortunately I couldn't find a front end donor. And my wood working skills isn't good enought to make one from scratch.
