    1897 Winchester

Just ordered a second 12GA 1897 Winchester which I will be using for Cowboy Action Shooting. What is nice is that it was made in 1922 just like the one I now have and the serial numbers are only about 3,000 apart.

Rudy, post or PM me the serial numbers, and I can give you the exact DOM on both guns from the Winchester polishing room records. If you found that 1922 date online, or most anywhere else, it's probably wrong.

I love the '97s. Fun shooters. Even more fun to disassemble

Anyone got a source for a replacement buttstock? Mine is cracked pretty badly.

                      Thanks,

I've got an original stock that's not cracked and comes with the original Winchester plastic(?) butt plate if you're interested, just PM me and I'll let you know how much i'm looking for.

I've had a 97 for about 14 years and finally got the barrel cut down so my wife could handle it better. Trust me I didn't want to cut it down but we won't be able to afford another for who knows how long and we will probably never sell this one, but anyways. When my buddy took it apart he said that most of the original blueing was left on the internal parts, he said he has never seen one with that much original blueing and he has been handeling 97's for about 60 or so years. Probably why I have never had any problems with it shooting SASS.

If you want a second barrel or parts you can looks up this website as he has parts and original 97s. In fact this is who I ordered my second 97 from.
