    Unsporterized the 1917

Well after much cleaning the horrifically sporterized 1917 is back in its military configuration. Found a WW1 Issue stock for it and some surplus handguards. Tracking down metal bits was a pain but I think I found them all.

You did a good job resurrecting a sporterized 1917. Finding the small parts can be a pain but between NPC and Springfield Sporters and other parts outlet, you can fins just about anything you need.
Each time I see a sporterized US military arms, it makes me cry. Looks like you are still missing the stacking swivel. Might want to stain the HG to match the stock to make it look better still.
I've posted this before but here it is again my 1917 five sisters:

Nice work. It seems to be in season to rescue old rifles.
I support peace through superior firepower.

Definitely want to stain those handguards. Metal cleaned up fine thankfully, no real pitting damage. Rifle does have a MOD broad arrow mark on the under side of her receiver though. Any recommendations for a stain?

In my experience, to match the old wood reddish patina I use Minwax Red Mahogany stain and if necessary, once the stain dries buff it with 0000 steel wool to match the shine on the old wood.

Go out and fin that 1917 gem. They are out there but most have corroded/dark bores. I've seen them at gun shows and posted on boards. Good luck.

Thanks guys. Can't wait to try it this weekend. I am supposed to get my stitches removed this week from my face so getting to the range will be a welcomed event.
