Just finished reassembling and refinishing my new to me K98. Came to me as an apparently unissued barreled action with an unissued stock. Beautiful bore, can't wait to try it. Can't wait to try it!

I don't believe the bolt is polished in the white like a Mitchell's Mauser. It looks like an Israeli used bcd 43 converted to fire 308. The stock has the finger grooves of an Israeli 98K stock. The buttplate looks like a surplus kriegsmodell type.
Nice looking rifle. Tell us how it shoots. They usually have an insert in the mag well so that 7.62X51 fits better, but that -on mine - sometimes interfers with loading.

Its German alright, but it was issued to the Israelis after the war and rechambered in .308!!WANT TO BUY and looking for shooter/beater/reenacting grade German Waffen proofed handguns from the WWII era. I just want shooters, Im not looking to spend oodles of money, I just want shootable examples to play with!!
!!!Also looking for a shooter/rack grade USGI M1 Carbine (Earlier the date the better)!!!

German late war rifles omitted the bolt disassembly disk. The hole in the Kriegsmodell buttplate is used for take down on later models.
It was just one of many shortcuts taken in the manufacturing process.Comment

Ah! I've been waiting to see what this one would turn out like....
Now you got a Mauser to match your K-31. And in bore diameter too!
You gotta give the OP a little more credit than that. He's got a couple of 8mm rifles already.
It's on the very edge. Many 7.62 Mausers that Israel used had Kriegsmodell stocks. It's simply another short cut.
On the downside, it looks like they still have the same ****ty sights.
Sorry, the barleycorns suck compared to what similar period rifles offered, especially the Swiss, Finn, and Swede rifles.sigpic

is the german surplus 7.62 nato still around? if it is, i liked that stuff.
