Found this while looking into building a Switch barrel mauser for my daughters with a old stripped Yugo M-48 receiver. right now the plan is to go .243 Win - 6.5 Swede combo gun, and possibly .308 eventually

The .223 conversion works better with a Mini-14 mag.

That could be a fun project to do with an already Bubba'd Mauser. I suppose you could also go with .300 Whisper or the 6.5 Grendel as well.

.300 Whisper or 6.5 Grendel in a Mauser? Why? Those cartridges are purpose-engineered to fit in a standard AR-15 action length. And they do that well. However, they represent a compromise due to limited case capacity imposed by shorter overall length. Why use them in a Mauser, where action length is not a constraint at that COL?

Wouldn't it be one HECK of a lot easier just to rebarrel said Mauser in 6.5X55? They do make 6.5X55 Large Ring barrels.

As a mechanical engineer, I just really appreciate the strong points in the original Mauser design, and prefer solutions where "simpler is better." And probably more reliable feeding, too.

Ive got a sporter Mauser in 30-06 that takes detachable mags. Pretty neat rifle.

Just thinking of AR magazine compatibility and also outside the box. If I was to get 6.5x55, I think I'd track down a nice Swedish Mauser or a Ljungman instead.

Mauser action in 223? Get a CZ. Cheap accurate, reliable, good looking.
