Bought an SKS and Type-99 Today

So ... bring back numbers matching w/ monopod (albeit bent) & aircraft sights Type 99 Arisaka, I paid 200. The mum is gone but otherwise its all there and it has what looks like it COULD be the original sling on it.

I also picked up a Zastava SKS. It was the right price and while I wanted to find a Russian or a Chinese, my sources near my base were lacking in even HAVING SKS's so I figured when this popped up, I'd jump at it. It should be fun to shoot at the least.

Only in the mean time, I'll get another SKS, I can guarantee you that, I want me a Russian!

Yeah, even the dust cover is numbers matching on it. Some guy walked in to trade it in and the manager saw me come in (and KNEW I wanted a T-99) and called me over. The guy was trading it in towards something else in the store and he told me what he'd give me for a price on it, I said yes, walked outta the store with my SKS and T-99 about an hour later

Don't know why some folks trash Yugos, Romanians or Norincos; that looks like one nice rifle. Congrats; don't sweat the fanboy stuff - I hope your new purchases give you lots of enjoyment for the years to come.

I love Arisakas. How stiff is that sling?

                Nice finds!

That Yugo SKS is SO much fun to shoot! I absolutely LOVE mine! I have Yugo's, Romanian's and a Chinese but the Yugo is the only one that makes it out to the range.

I just did a trade with SKSer45... he hates Yugos... wait until he finds out what he got from me. He only thinks it's Romanian

If you could imagine feeding a rubberized canvas sling viagra for the last 70 years, then you'd have an idea of how stiff it is. Its pretty much junk but its original on an original rifle and thus, it'll stay on the rifle.

                    Nice scores!

                    On the T99-
The sling and the monopod alone are worth well above what you paid.
Put up a picture of the left receiver markings. Looks kind of Nagoya

Word of caution: if the screws are still staked, you'll probably want to leave them be.
Same goes for the sling, probably best to let sleeping dogs lie as they are quite valuable.

                      Good.

Good job on both of those - heck of a deal. And I'm glad you realized it and know the value of the original parts and all are staying put.

If it's a bring back, it's a post war one. The grinding on the mum like that started after the war ended. The sling alone is worth at least half of what you paid, good score.
