Date Coding?; Remington 514 YSSA Trio (Now with Pics!)

    Guys,

So it turns out I ended up winning a trio of Remington 514 .22's. However, I incorrectly assumed they're all C&R, which they might be (produced 1948-70), but the seller never specified. I've checked with the RSA guide, but the codes the guy gave me don't fill the usual bill. I'm waiting on photos but hoping someone has more info that what is available to me right now. The markings he gave me are:

    1. RL10
    2. P77
    3. "and what appears to be a partial "A" followed by an A and 3 marks "III""

The only date stamping I am aware of (and on all my commercial Remingtons) is the standard BLACKPOWDERX format.

That's what I figured. Just waiting on pics of the marks and if need be a call to Remington. Go figure helping kids would be so difficult.

Do they also have serial numbers? If not, they are definitely made prior to 1968.

If you have the serial numbers, you can call Rem's customer service and they can give you the DOM too. Most times they even get the right date.

You are correct, they don't have serial numbers so they are 1968 and older. However, if one is from 1968 I can't get it through using my C&R. I need them all to be 1961 or older. The seller does not consider them C&R so what I am trying to do is prove they are 50 years or older in order to avoid going through an 01 FFL.

The number stamped after the date code is an assembly number.
If a Remington went back to Rem for work on it, there is another series of code numbers and letters that were stamped in front(to the left) of the date code.
I wonder if that's what the seller was seeing?

Could be, but I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt since I'm asking to tell me EVERYTHING written on the barrels. Hopefully he comes through with the pics or I may call. I hate feeling like I'm giving the guy a hard time since it's my fault for not clarifying before I won. Either way my kids are going to love these. Just need a new stock for one of them.

                      1. RL10 = 11/64

                      2. P77 = PZZ? = 6/53

                      3. AA = 3/54

Okay, spoke with Remington today and the guy was kind of a snot. Found out by the barrel length the date code of the one marked "RL10" is most accurate. These are 24" barrel models which started production in 1963. Damnit....

I wouldn't take anything that Rem says as gospel. About the only thing they can tell you with a reasonable amount of accuracy, is the DOM from a serial number, and that's on a good day.
The dates I gave you are correct for those markings. One more thing about Rem barrel date codes, they tell you accurately when the barrel was made, not when the receiver was made, or assembled to the barrel.

Yeah, I don't get it. The guy acted like the markings had nothing to do with the dating of the rifle. Didn't even want to hear them.
