I was at the range yesterday and saw a guy shooting what I thought was a Yugo Mauser. I asked him about it and he said it was a Russian copy of the K98. I did not have the round metal thingie in the stock like a K98. Instead it had a square/rectangular cutout in the stock. Anyone have any ideas on this oddball? I looked on the web and there is a lot abt. Russian capture K98's but nothing about a Russian copy. In fact, I have a Russian capture K98.

It's probably just a Russian capture and the guy is mixed up about what RC stands for. Some German K98 stocks from the late war period don't have the bolt disassembly disc. I'm guessing that the "square/rectangular cutout" that you saw is just the sling cutout.__________________

the Russians didn't make copies of the 98k.
the stock not having the take down disc could have been a very late war Kriegsmodell German 98k stock. or it could have been modified in some wayComment

I'm voting kreigsmodell as well.
It probably had the hole way in the back, near the edge of the stock. This hole does the same thing as the one in the original stock disk.sigpic
