The VG start around $450 and up these days. Hell, maybe even more.

Yes indeed. $450 should get you one home, but if you have a larger budget, you might have to settle on one a little more exspensive, or risk loosing it. You can pay too much or you might miss out. Particuar species are harded to find at a reasonable price, $375-$400 to me. SKSs in general are holding their own and rising. I think there's going to be a run on them driving the prices up. They're already about $50 or so over this time last year, and it won't take too many people with an extra $750, who'll get a Russian just because it's an SKS, not because it's a Russian. THERE AREN'T ANY MORE, AND NONE ARE COMMING. As a platform they're "catching on". On another dedicated gun board, there's at least 1 newbie, usually in each catagory of country of origin, daily. Conservatively, 5 a week. Do the math, we might be the people who see them dry up, like an air cooled vw. There were lots of 'em, now it's tough to find one unmolested. PAX

Also look on www.gunbroker.com I have had an account with them for years. Its easy and a safe web sight. There are a couple of others but, I personally like this one the best, although I check "Calguns" first.

No, actually Izhmash SKSs are rarer. Tula made more of them.

I am a C&R fan just as much as the next guy, but when SKS start hitting the 500+ mark it will become beyond ridiculous, why not just build a budget AR platform or even a nice AK for that much and call it a day....

is this a good buy? Its a re arsenal 53 tula, has black bolt.

I want to add it to my collection, not to shoot. I am a SKS newbie doesnt know much, but definetly want a russian.
Does it have any collector value?

                      Please let me know.

Well, that one was clearly rearsenaled, so I dont think it has as much value.

If you are going for collectability and resale value in the future than yup.
