Not sure of an aftermarket muzzle brake to direct you to, but the thread specs are as follows; you may not find someone specifically selling a muzzle brake "FOR" the MAS 49/56, but you might be able to match specs:

The threads are 16.8mm x 100 diameter of a left turning coil, Length 22mm, after a 15mm diameter X 6mm long barrel start. The barrel itself is 17mm in diameter.

Good info! I have seen unthreaded brakes for sale, so with that info a competent gunsmith can thread it up for a 49/56.

I just finished making up a muzzle brake for mine last night. No idea on how
well it will work, but it does away with the bare threaded muzzle which looks
a little funky to me. Not sure if this photo will post.....

Heck, I'd settle for one of those clamp on types so long as it didn't look out of place.

                  I like that...

Where did you find a tap to make those threads? I've been hearing that it's pretty hard to find those.

I need one as well, so if you make a couple more, I'd be glad to pay you something for it...

Yeah, me too! If you make a few of those, let me know. I'd definitely pay you for that. Right now, I've got bare threads on my 49/56 barrel. I'd rather not ding them up...

I will let you know how it does after I try it out. I am making a scope mount
as well, so it may be a week or two before that is done and I take it to the range. I hadn't thought about selling them, but I will think about it. The shark gills are kind of a pain and really add to the machining time. A simpler one could be made, but I don't know if that is more or less appealing to anyone.

For the gentleman asking about a tap- I single pointed the thread on a lathe.

I really do not care how it works... Just need to either get one or make a few to sell..

I'd buy one too if you decide to produce a few.

                            thanks,
