    Remington 141

Today I bought a Remington 141 in 35 Remington. Just over $300.00 and about 95% shape - no recoil pad added, no dings or scratches. Just finished cleaning it and have a question about reassembly.

There's a small tab on the lower half of the rifle containing the trigger group and stock. It pivots front to rear and sits almost flat each way. It's called the "carrier dog" and it's part #15 on this schematic:

When I reassemble the rifle and drop top half on to bottom half should this part be sitting to the front or to the rear?

Congratultions on getting a rifle that would cost about 5 times that if it were made today, assuming that it COULD be made.

I see your problem: the "NRA Book of Firearms Assembly" schematic (same as Steve's) has the part sitting pointing straight up in the "exploded" diagram. The part pivots on a pin and could pivot either way. Should it perhaps sit straight up when you re-assemble, allowing it to pivot freely either way? That's what the schematic SHOULD mean when they leave the part oriented the way it is in the drawing....otherwise all I can suggest is that you try re-assembling with it pointing front, and if that doesn't work, try it pointing backwards--but I suspect you've tried that by now....

If you don't have the NRA book handy, I could snail mail you the two pages that are relevant. Just reply with your mailing address (I don't have access to a fax).

After a few take downs and reassembles it looks like it makes no difference. The only way it wouldn't go together is straight up. It appears the thing pivots back and forth and so long as it's set one way or the other it works. The underside of the bolt has a flat rail and I'm guessing it bears against it.

Good; glad you got it to work. .35 Rem is a good ctg. Even useful for small game if you load .38 RNs for edible game and hotter .357 125s for varmints. Not to mention the factory loads for piggies and deer.

            So...What about the Pics, OP?

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.
