    taking the plunge

ok so i think that i want to get my C&R. First off, i would like to say that i want to get it not because i want to become some huge collector but because i want the other benefits and discounts while acquiring my personal firearms.

    What are my responsibilities?

i know i have to keep a ledger of some kind but is this for all firearms i own or just for those that i purchase that are C&R?

I can cash and carry longarms at gunshows correct? or does that require a COE?

I will no longer pay DROS on C&R purchases, correct? what about non-C&R?

Can i sell cash and carry to those without a C&R?

When selling firearms that i no longer want, if i am shipping can i ship C&R firearms straight to the purchaser? or does it still need to go to an FFL?

Thanks, I know i have a lot to learn about C&R.

I'm no lawywer, but I do have my C&R and try to be up to date on all that stuff, so I will take a shot at helping you out.

The ledger is only for C&R firearms you acquire while you are licensed. You have to record them into the book when you get them and out if you sell/trade them. You will need to get the other persons info (driver's lic, etc.) (side note: just because you can cash and carry when buying a rifle at a gunshow or whatever, you still need to log it into the book. I've had some people tell me you don't because you are not USING your C&R, like if you were buying from AIM. It's not that you use your license, but YOU are licensced). Clear as mud?

You will have to do DROS if you buy a curio and relic long arm from a dealer, but not a private party. Doesn't make any sense, I know.

You can sell cash and carry to a person without a C&R, (NOT PISTOLS). Just make sure to get their info. If they balk at that, WALK AWAY, there might be a good reason they don't want to give info.

When selling firearms you no longer, it is a gray area if you can ship to another non-C&R person. I personally wouldn't do it, unless you know the person you are mailing to very well. Definitely don't send it across a state line unless the person has sent your their C&R.

It's kind of confusing, but just be careful and you will fulfill the responsibilities just fine. Hope this helps.

PS, I don't think the C&R confers ANY benefit with non-C&R arms.
