CMP Special Grade M1 - Helped my Boss get one

    Pictures first :

Edit: sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. The wood is really nice, color is represented pretty well in the photo. Nice grey/green park. He did well.

And yes, those pics were shot from our boardroom. Got to love where I work!

So I was talking to the president of my company about getting a Garand from CMP and he told me that he wanted one. He asked If I could get one for him but I told him my 03FFL won’t allow me to “engage in a business of selling firearms” and that I was reluctant to push it. But I told him that I could help him get is 03FFL and get one himself. I walked him through the process and fast forward 3 months later he is now the proud owner of a CMP special grade. Serial number dates it to June 1945. Park looks great, but it needs to be stripped to get all the preservative oil on it –the action is really gritty. Barrel is brand new – measures 0 and 0 for throat and barrel.

He is letting me take it home to show another buddy of mine tomorrow so he can see the differences between my field grade and this special grade. Just trying to do my part!

Forgive me but I was under the impression you didn't need a FFL for CMP.

Nevermind... A quick search answered that for me. Need on 03FFL (C&R) as part of the process. Hmmm maybe this year.

no, you don't NEED an 03FFL to purchase from CMP. you can use an 03FFL, if you have one, to prove your "marksmanship activities". if you don't have the 03, then you just need to provide alternate documentation.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Ah so my "Get out of jail free card... aka retired military ID" would suffice?

But I would not be able to have it mailed to my home, I would need to contact an 03ffl and have them assist me correct?

            Thanks.

no. CMP will Fedex it directly to your home (they did used to use USPS in the past and the mailman delivered it to you). CMP is exempt from needing to use an FFL to deliver the firearm to you.

                Beautiful.

I bought 3 in the past and sold one to my boss as well...our quarterly review interviews are usually conversations on where to buy the best surplus ammo and when we're planning to shoot our Garands next...hahhaah

CMP is exempt from normal Federal gun law, by Act of Congress.

All you have to do is jump through their hoops, have current documentation in their files and they will ship it to your doorstep without any need for Federal Firearms License to be involved.

This is part of what makes CMP so extremely cool.

Go to their site and check it out.

It should also be noted that the HSC card qualifies for the " Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity"

Helped the Boss get a Garand...Nice!
                          But I have to ask...

                          Q: What's the difference between an *** kisser & a brown-noser?
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

seriously?!? Crap! I didn't see that in their list of exemptions. The reason he got the 03FFL was to bypass that requirement. Are you sure?

Heh, I've known him for 20 years - He's only been my boss for about 3 years now. He even bought half of my wife's Sig P229. He called me one day from the gun store and said; "Hey, I saw a stainless Sig P229 that I know your wife was looking at and put $500 down on it as a gift. They are waiting for you to DROS it."

The CEO is also a firearms enthusiast so he's next. He hasn't seen either of these rifles yet but I bet he will be asking me how to get one shortly.
