So I've been offered a trade for a Winchester '97 solid frame or a takedown. Both are fairly equal condition wise and have shortened barrels. Which should I go for, solid frame or takedown? Everything else seems just about even, except the solid frame has a replaced buttplate.

They're fun guns. Just go for whatever you think you'd use more.sigpic

I have a take down model and it has never came loose. So I would pick which ever one looks more original and has a better finish.
Are you going to use this for SASS or have you just wanted a 97? I am looking for an original 87 myself, always wanted one of those sweet lever action 12 gauges.Comment

Solid frame is less to "worry" about, there's an adjustment sleeve on the takedown models that should be considered when bought but it's not too big of a deal.
I thought I'd be using the takedown feature often since I got mine but ive rarely left it apart except to transport to camp like 3 times a year lol!"Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."Comment
