Bad M1 Clips?

I posted this in the CMP forums a few days ago, but I just wanted to see if you guys had this problem. I was out shooting my M1 and the seventh round would fail to feed properly. It would come up and to the left and the tip of the bullet would plow into the reciever just above the chamber and slightly to the left.

It never did this in about 750 rounds (all from the CMP including these) so I'm almost positive it's not the gun. The clips were marked 'SF' and upon closer inspection they were folded a tad bit closer together then my other ones that I had saved.

Anyway, I grabbed a couple old clips and the rifle ran fine, I was jsut curious if this happened to you guys.

I have heard this happening with the "SF" clipped HXP ammo. Have not shot any myself, so have no first hand knowledge of it.

I'll just us my older USGI clips if I have problems.

SF is the problem. Let me guess it came on HXP 80s? Unload all your ammo and reload them on USGI clips. These French made clips are junk.

Yeah there was a problem I cant remember what year I think around 78 they made the rime of the cases slight larger so they made the clips little bigger to. It causes feed problems if you don`t use that year in that clip. SF marked clips have always kinda been a problem from what I hear.

SF, JMO's all run perfectly in all 14 of my Garands. IMO these enblocs may be made slightly different and if your Op Rod spring is worn or other parts slightly out of spec they wont work well in your rifles.

If the spring is worn, why does it work fine with regular USGI clips though? Like I said, i ran about 750 rounds thru this rifle, every 8 rounds had a different clip since I buy the case and shoot it straight from the CMP.

Like I already said, the JMO and SF may be made slightly different than USGI. That alone with a rifle that has parts that are slightly worn and right on the edge of being out of spec.
What else would explain why some people have problems with them and many others do not?

Good point. Does the CMP sell new Op Rod Springs? Maybe I'll pick one up for when it eventually wears out sooner or later.

CMP does not sell springs, I suggest getting one from Orion7
Stay away from Extra Power Op Rod Springs as they can cause short stroking
First thing I do when I buy a Garand is change the spring ,its cheap good insurance
Dont know 100% if this will make SF enblocs run in your rifle but its the only thing I can guess as they run fine in many rifles and not in others

I had the same problem with my HRA. I dc'd the "SF" enblocs and problem solved.

I would like to try some of the SF enblocs that people are having problems with to see if its the enblocs or the rifle causing problems
