    M1917 Range Report

Picked up an Eddystone last week @ the Vallejo Gunshow. Loaded up some 30-06 last night. Bundled up in Long Johns this AM as it was 40 degrees. I shoot so much better when I'm not shivering!

Warmed up the gun with a few shots. My second 3 shot group @ 50 yds off the bench.

Had trouble remembering the sight picture. I kept placing the front sight post on the black instead of under the black. Had a lot of high shots. Finally got a nice slow fire 3 shot group at 100 yds standing offhand!

And my last 10 shots @ 100 yds offhand quasi-rapid fire. I did have a 5 & a 6 that is not in the pic.

I really loved shooting this gun. I did wear my shoulder pad as I'm not into pain & have a small shoulder issue. Loved the sharp push of the stock & slow rise of the muzzle. Fun!

    Real pleased w/ this gun!

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Nice shooting. I have a Remington "Model of 1917" that my uncle had. He 'sporterized' it, as was the custom in the 50s and 60s. So now that it's mine, it's stocked for a scope, but it's wearing a receiver sight. I have to scrunch (is that a real word?) way down on the stock and wiggle around to get the sight picture I need. It's not real pretty but I have a lot of fun and it does the job. I have just started shooting halfway decent groups at 50 yds, so now I am encouraged to be a real man and try 100.

How do you like that bolt compared your SMLE's?

Dang, Wifey & I are hosting a Christmas party next Saturday. Otherwise I'd be on that!

The bolt was good. I think it needed a bit more lube, though. The SMLE cocks on opening the bolt. The M1917 cocks on closing, so they are totally different.
