Next thing you know, you think "Deliverance" is a love story. -
Damn, that barrel damper is amazing?!!For the inevitable next step.
Latigo stops by on occasion and his dad was a genius who turned his attention to Swiss rifles.
Some amazing stuff out there. The Lost Prairie Chronicles is a great read if I can find them again.
"Proven to cut group sizes by a 38% minimum." Will it make people lose weight too?
BTW, nice refinish OP. Its sad most k31s dont look so good these days.Comment

I was looking at that too...that is a hell of a claim!
Does anyone have the barrel threading tool that I could borrow if I were to pick the damper up?
Ryan-Thanks man! I think that if they are starting to look dead, a redo is a good option. It restores the original ferocity and grace that it was manufactured to portray.Comment

I didn't thread my barrels. There is plenty of room for the clamp on version.
Big recoil pad and a muzzle brake makes it a very comfortable battle rifle.
We do far more shooting in just t-shirts than the Swiss. It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.Comment

Excellent observation.
So you would endorse the clamp-on? I was wondering how that compares to the version that you have to spend an additional 90 dollars on and then never use again...Comment

The group size reduction proof is on the target, but I think there's some confusion.
The "Damper" and the Brake are two different critters. We've heard from a few users who claim that the Brake helps with group sizes too, but that's not our experience. We found no change whatsoever in group sizes with the Brake.
Note that the group reduction claim is made for a specific cartridge and range of projectiles. That damper is the result of a bunch of prototypes over a 1 year period. It was designed for the GP11 cartridge or those loads matching the GP11 in performance that use a 175gr VLD type projectile. We found that the SMK 175 performs closely to the Berger and the GP11 projectiles with the right load data.
If your load data is not good to begin with, then the Damper will not help you. If a Brake is what you need, there's no need to thread your barrel. The Clamp On Brake works great.
If you do thread your barrel then both the threaded Brake and Damper are interchangeable.
And.. The SRDC has a Threader loan program.Latigo and P

DB, note that PRVI brass is used by a number of companies producing their own loads. The headstamp may not be pertinent at all.Latigo and P

OK, I just used it to plink steel at Angeles and then have reloaded the brass. I never papered it but, I also never missed the steel targets out to 400 with it.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

There is an accurizing method for the k31 developed by my Father long ago. The "screw balancing" part was actually adopted by the Swiss shooting team.

Thanks for the heads-up. Just got the SP Brake, Damper, Thread Protector, and Threading Kit in the mail. Can't wait for the next range day.
EDIT: This is where I read the Wolf/Prvi item; "The company also makes commercial ammunition for export to Australia, where it is sold under the Highland AX brand.
Prvi Partizan ammunition was previously imported to the United States by the Hansen Cartridge Company. Prvi Partizan has formed a partnership with Wolf Ammunition of Russia, manufacturing the "premium" Wolf Gold line."
It's from Wikipedia's Prvi Patrizan page, so I take it with a grain of salt, but the only 7.5 Swiss that Wolf makes is the Gold. I took the manufacturing to mean the whole cartridge. Only difference I've noticed is the Wolf is a little more expensive.Last edited by DasBoost; 12-13-2011, 2:48 PM.REDACTEDOriginally posted by shakes88I went to drop one duece and I come back to pedo-spiderman, dead cats and ***** ******* tattoos...
