I was wondering if anyone out there has purchased a Mitchell's Mausers and had a bad experience? As far as I can tell no one has dealt with them personally they just say bad things about them. I know, I know, everyone is a Mauser expert but does anyone have any proof at all that they are full of s...?

I personally have had no experience at all w/ Mitchell's, nor will I. I've done my due diligence, I'd suggest you should also. You'll get a pretty gun, not as described in the ad, for at least 2X the gun's normal value. Your choice, no one here needs to give you proof. Best lessons learned are those you've done to yourself

Send 'em your money, let us know what happens.

You mentioned "normal value". What is the normal value and who sets the value? In my local gun shop, I compared the cheap K98s with Mitchells K98 and there is no contest. Mitchell is higher priced but you get exactly what you pay for. Try the comparison yourself.

Mitchell's Mausers targets military rifle newbies

I call shenanigans. However, if I am wrong...From personal experience they target new gun owners. Some of their ads claimed that their Yugo M48s were from WWII..They were post war Yugo made and put in storage..

The difference between a "Mitchell Mauser" and a regular M48 is primarily a marketing difference. You can get the same condition M48, with the same accessories, from other sources for a lower cost. The only difference is the marketing effort put into selling the "Mitchell Mausers" and the "Certificate of Authenticity."

Mitchell's Mausers are almost universally considered to be rip-off artists who charge vastly inflated prices and don't describe their wares particularly honestly.

My $125 M48 has all matching numbers and came with complete "kit."

You asked what your rifle is worth. If you bought it from Mitchell, unfortunately for you the truth is that it's worth a helluva lot less than what you paid for it.

And just who issued and signed that "Certificate of Authenticity"? I have a laser printer and a box of blank certificate forms ... I can print up all the certificates of authenticity you want. They won't be worth the paper they're printed on, but then ... neither are Mitchell's.

Also.. to add to this.. I can't mention names.. but one of my shooting buddies knows the owner/owners?? of Mitchel Mausers and I won't buy one from them either... only from the info I have gleamed. Also I have personally seen these 'firearms' and from the price... I wan't impressed.......Like others have said.. you can get the real deal for less....you're paying extra for apine box (which may be used in the future heheee)

I do believe that the price I paid was fair and I will enjoy the rifle. I just don't understand how you can bad mouth a company and say the things you say if you don't have any proof of your claims other than word of mouth.

I have many friends and family that have purchased Mausers from Mitchell's and they are Mauser experts (like you) and they don't think that they are fakes.

A few family members were in WWI, WWII, and Korea. I will believe the true Mauser experts in my family. They have proof and knowledge of Mauser history not just ill feelings from "rumors".

You never did answer my question though. Did you buy a Mauser from Mitchell's? Was it no good? Did you know that they do guarantee there products?

I have a Mitchells Mauser, it was given to me as a gift from a widow that wanted her hubby's guns to be used by a person who would appreciate them. I must say it is a pristine specimen with proper markings on the receiver and hardware but looks to have an after market correct shape stock. The bore is shiny and the gun condition is right up there with my 79 dollar Big 5 K-98. I shoot em both as they were meant to be used. The box is not worth a can of beans to me. I would have to fish it and the "certificate of authenticity" out from my attic. I have a pristine Mosin from the guy that is my favorite milsurp from another country. My faves being the 03A3.

I bought an unissued M48 from big 5 maybe 7-8 years ago, with all of the goodies inlcuding bayonet for I believe $159

In Croatia and Bosnia they were going for about 50dm 15 years ago.

Mitchell's Mauser K98s have been reworked. You don't need to own one to know that. Just take a look at their "polished" bolts and whatnot and compare that to actual WWII photos. They take russian capture rifles that are worth $250-300 and make them look pretty (ruining their historical value) so people will purchase them believing they are getting a really nice piece.
