    Mauser barrel extension?

Can anyone tell me about the muzzle on my VZ.24? The end of the barrel with the front sight appears to be either threaded or pressed on. No rifling present at the muzzle for the last inch and it looks like a different colored material. Is this normal?

Never seen that before. I've got no idea, I'd assume it's been counterbored with the whole "no rifling" bit, but that line....

I've got 2 swedes, the Czeck and Dad's Brazilian and none of the others look like this. You can tell it wasn't part of the barrel to begin with...

For many many many Mausers- this is how the front sight is attached; via the "extension" you see. The barrel (at the muzzle) is machined down just a tiny bit & the 'extension' is soldered on. I don't quite recall the reasoning behind it- but either way- that's totally normal.
