Write down EVERY number you can find and where it is - then hit www.jouster.com and post it in the M1 forum -

depending upon originality it can be a $600 gun or a $15,000 gun

There are too many minor things that can affect the value.

Quick look - the more marked WRA the better - or parts that say CM - VERY important what is marked on the stock - if it has WRA over something else (score....) but it could be "restamped" or a fake stamp put on there - an eagle with stars over it is a replacement stock - - with the bolt open, check the markings on the barrel - what do the rear sights look like (lock bar being a bar used to tighten down the sight)

Anything marked PB / BMB indicate italian made replacement parts - anything marked SA IHC or HRA indicate replacement parts made by one of the other manufacturers.

Any marks on the barrel towards the muzzle or under barrel or side of receiver could indicate an imported rifle (almost always rebuilt several times and usually quite worn)

Do you trust this guy?

Some receivers are welded together from de-mil parts - not safe - not worth diddly. Look for discoloration on the receiver - or "bubbles" from the welding.

Inspect carefully if the barrel is stamped "Blue Sky." Those are re-imports from S. Korea. Some are OK, others are a bunch of worn-out parts that have been refinished and slapped back together.
