Yeah, that makes as much sense as this:

"Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." -Thomas Jefferson

              Nope!
Based upon your description you paid way too much. You could have gotten some other gun for way less. In a condition different than the one you over-paid for. Including numbers and stuff.
Although, the front sight looks original, but not for this gun.
I can say for sure that if you keep it as-is, in 20 years it will probably still be a gun, but not in this caliber.

                Even more appropriate connundrum:

Since he didn't tell us I am going to guess a "Red Ryder" bb gun. JMHO

Agreed - If that's what you wanted and you don't mind shelling out the cash, then don't worry about it. Hell you easily spend a $1000 on a M1 Garand.

                            ... but it's a beauty.

It's something you might see in a book on this model of rifle, it's that good.

Not a mil-surplus rifle, not too common, definitely a sought-after rifle, even though no others are currently depicted or discussed anywhere on Calguns; I know, I did a search. Same models of this rifle in nearly similar condition (barrels not as good) have gone for about $300 less than I paid at auctions such as Bonhams/Butterfield, RIA, or Sothebys. So maybe not so bad, eh?

Others might say I paid a fair price for something so rarely found in this new condition. They might also say, you spent what you spent not because of the monetary value, but because it's a rifle you always wanted and the best example you've ever found in 20 years. The value is in the find.

Like-new, barrel perfect, looks unfired, so couldn't pass on it. But I still feel a bit stupid for paying as much as I did. However, seriously - have never seen a better example in 20 years. Happy? Maybe. Just hoping the monetary aspect fades upon the revelation of bragging rights eventually paying off!

In any case, somewhere, somehow, somebody else just overspent twice what I paid on electronics made in China, that are already out-dated by a year or more, due to some fabricated deal on a "Black Friday" item. Their overpayment makes mine pale in comparison. Now I don't feel so bad.

There, now I feel a whole lot better!

Pics next week after pick-up. Then I can be judged by a jury of my Calguns peers if my foible is folly, or my find is frickin' awesome.
                            WTF is this thread about?

                            hahaha

It was worth what you paid when you paid for it otherwise...
