    My CMP Garand is here

Well I picked up my first Garand today from Fed-ex in Sac. this morning. It arrived overnite on Wednesday AM for delivery and I was out of state until Sun AM. Boy it sure looks nice, Springfield Armory 2,752,xxx.

I got my first email from them the end of Sept about the 29th saying it was received and in line to process and then the shipping notice on Wed Oct 31 that it was out for delivery. About a month and a half, nice.

Pics will follow later. Just need some ammo now

Contrats! Over at the odcmp forum, last night I read that someone got an "out of stock" type of message and that it'll take 60-120 days to fill his order. So, it sounds like the built-up Garands are now gone and they have to get to grading, prepping and shipping out the Greek Garands they got. I read that they've only got something like 118k of them... so they'll be around a while. They just have to sort through them...

If you're over in Sacramento, the River City Gun Exchange has M2 Ball ammo. Not a whole lot from what I've seen, but they have it for around $6/box of 20. Otherwise, The Gun Room in Elk Grove has it for about $10.50/box. You have to order in bulk from the CMP, but that works out to about $5.50/box. Probably in a month or two I'll order from the CMP. I'm not burning through my supply that fast right now...

You scared me since i have an order in, so i went to check the forum and most of those posts were from 10/01/2007, I think they are back on track with the Greeks.

Well, I got the "order received" message on Oct. 4, so hopefully only another few days... I did get that 60-120 days email as well though, when I asked a few weeks back...

Here are some pics, fresh from the box and a couple after taking it apart and cleaning it up a bit.

My Springfield Armory M1 Garand -- field grade

SA Barrel, Trigger Housing, Op Rod, and a HRA Bolt. Barrel looks to be dated 12/54, Trigger housing I think is correct for the rifle, OP rod is post WW2. Stock is a bit banged up, P at the palm swell, and a RA stamped on it as well, but I like it. Over all metal finish is very good IMO except for the gas cylinder (?) also it is really tight, had to tap it off.

Got to say I am thrilled with it so far, just need to hit the range soon.

SO AWESOME.... Post more pics if you re-finish the wood. I got a Field Grade garand from CMP a few months ago and I had the same mismatched wood as you. I stripped, sanded, and then re-stained the whole stock set with a stain that more or less matched the darker buttstock like you have. It really brought the stock set colors together and looks much better. The hard part is sanding down the different parts to a similar grit so the grain matches well. It only takes one night to do, and it will make it look MUCH better... not to mention that it will feel better in your hands.

                  CONGRATS!

By the look of the handguards.. they look like they are beech wood!!! Some people would pay and arm and a leg for them!!! The bad news if you want to refinish the handguards to look like the stock.. good luck.. beech doesn't take to stain well at all....

No intention of refinishing them, this baby stays just as she is. When I order another one, maybe I will dress her up nicely, maybe.

Congratulations on getting your M1 from CMP. They have some nice stuff. I was able to get my M1 back in 2004 and it is quite nice for a rack grade, in fact it looks more like a service grade, no complaints here
