    '43?????????

Nah. You're looking at the barrel when it was re-barreled I'd guess. What's the serial? ((Yes you can drop the last digits with an X)) someone will tell ya' the year it was made.........

    edit:
the RA....IIRC is for the Royal Army; Rebarreled gun or something like that....Again IIRC would mean its been overseas
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered....

That thing looks SWEET. It's just propped on the pod or is that thing actually mounted to it?
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Bipod is just poopped under it for photo op.
7 Digits, Mine falls inbetween the two highlighted, so looks like mine is actually June of 43

RA = Remington Arms. RA can also indicate a rebuild from Raritan Arsenal, New Jersey. Brophy's book isn't absolutely clear on that.

FJA is Lt.Col. Frank J. Atwood the military inspector at Remington Arms.

Brophy's 1903 Springfield is the best book on the subject of 1903 Springfields and 03A3 rifles.

Hatcher's Notebook is another - available free online in pdf format.. google to find.

Excellent looking rifle!! correct stock for that rifle too (as well as the barrel)...even though you said the bi-pod is just propped under the rifle.. please don't mount it to the rifle!!

                  Thanks for the info guys
And no it will not get a bipod mounted to it.
Wish I could mount a scope without D&T

                            You can.

First, that's a very nice looking rifle - I want to make clear I'm not encouraging altering it. But there are a few options.

First, B - Square makes a no D & T mount that replaces your mag cut off. Unlike most of their products it's solid and for the most part not made from aluminium. You can put it on with absolutely no alteration to the rifle. It works perfectly, but it does put the scope up high and you cannot remove the bolt unless you move the mount a bit.

Second, there's an S & K mount that secures in the sight dovetail at the rear of the bridge and a steel ring that slips over the front receiver ring. It's the same set up they use for their SMLE rifles, I have a few. To use the S & K you have to remove a bit of wood on the bottom inside of the stock & a thin cut up to the sides of the receiver ring cut. It's almost not noticeable, but it does remove some wood.

A period Weaver scope looks pretty much at home if you go that route.

take it through its paces....you might find that grouping changes when the gun heats up. I did the hard way...turned out it was uneven pressure on the screws-to-stock-n-gun having unequal pressure. But good group!
