    FN 49s

Just an FYI to those in the market, Tabors in San Bruno has about 6 FN 49s in 8mm, 7mm, 308 & 30.06. Alls bores pristine, the 7mm is not import marked. I bought an 8mm - walnut stock, brass buttplate & stock disc. Looks like it spent the last 40 years in someone's gun room, not a dent or scratch on the wood or metal. The 308 looks to have a FAL or M1A mag on it.
The 30.06 has a very nice tiger stripe to it.

Prices are $599.00 to $799.00 or $899.00 - can't recall the most expensive one was, a few $650.00s. Mine was $799.00, which I think was a steal for its condition.

There was also a MAS 44 being cleaned up - don't know the price.

Dagnabit, I bet that .308 is an argie with the right mag. Why is it always somewhere else, and not near fresno

I believe it was - had a "mag catch" that was slightly different from the others. I think the price on that one was $599.00, maybe it's worth a drive.

Ok which one of you beat me to the .308? It sold early this morning. To think I was going to go in yesterday to get it. Oh well, I snooze I lose. But I did not let the .30-06 get away. There are two FN49's left, an Egyptian 8mm ($599) and a Vennie 7mm ($799) Good prices if you ask me.

There are a couple at City Arms as well, both look really nice but the price tag was $1k on the one I saw. I was too busy being mad at the fuddy kid in the NRA hat behind the counter to inquire about the FN-49's.

Isn't that 30.06 wood nice? I'm kind of surprised about the 7mm still being there - I think it had the brake, deep cartouches & nice wood.

The last FN49 that I've seen that had the same tiger stripped wood was on a Vinnie on GunBroker going for $1250 to $1500 somewhere in that range.

My guess is that 5 years ago, so far as the 1994 - 2004 AW ban & ATF was concerned, the gun was considered to have a detachable magazine and J & G probably blended that "knowledge" with detach mags & centerfire rifles in CA are forbidden. Just a guess.
