    Nagant Pistol Question

    I recently passed on a Nagant pistol because it quote " C&R handguns still need to go through the ppt process" and therefore I needed to do the process at a dealer and pay a $25 fee. However the CA's DOJ website has this: Effective January 1, 2001, no handgun may be manufactured within California, imported into California for sale, lent, given, kept for sale, or offered/exposed for sale unless that handgun model has passed firing, safety, and drop tests and is certified for sale in California by the Department of Justice. Private party transfers, curio/relic handguns, certain single-action revolvers, and pawn/consignment returns are exempt from this requirement.

    I have a C&R FFL but it is still confusin' to me!

    Someone (in plain english) clarify this

    C&R handguns are exempt from the "Roster", but all* handgun transfers must go through an FFL dealer. So, yes, you must use an FFL and pay the $25 fee plus the $10 that the FFL is allowed to charge.
    Transfer of the Nagant pistol is good-to-go, but, still needs to be done at an 01FFL.

    *Parents, Grandparents and children can hand it over, face to face and mail in a form + fee ($19).

        Dennis, you didn't say how much they wanted for the Nagant.

            If you, as a C&R FFL, travel to J&G Sales in Arizona you can buy it in person and bring it back with you to California.

            If you want J&G to ship it to California then it has to go through a California licensed dealer because it is a handgun.

Even if you go out of state, pick it up and bring it back, you'll still need to fill out a personal handgun importer form (IIRC) and pay the state $19 for each C&R handgun you bring into the state using your 03 FFL. If you have one imported into the state, it'll need to go through an 01 or 07 FFL period.

                Just got my 03 FFL and hav'nt used it yet. Do have a question re: handguns... I understand they must go through an 01 FFL for the transfer, does that mean they hold it for 10 days, or is it just in and out with the paper work?

                  If you just have the C&R FFL then you will have to wait the 10 days. If you have a C&R FFL and a Certificate of Eligibility then you can skip the 10 day wait.

                        From what I've seen on the forums if you are driving it in yourself you need only register it... not take it to a dealer.
