SKS legality clarification

Hi all,

I've searched for this and read quite a lot of threads on the subject but am still not completely clear on the legality of different variations, and there is no definitive answer in one place. (even the SKS FAQ)

Original Russian SKS: C&R eligible if 50 yrs or older? CA legal with fixed mag only?
Yugo 59/66: CA legal only with GL removed? detachable mags CA legal with the 10-part game? not C&R eligible because of GL mod?
Yugo 59: no GL, but same deal with detachable mags? not C&R?
Norinco: same?

Original Russian, 100% legal.... making it detach mags takes it out of C&R status which could be bad somehow on the federal level (like if you bought it on your 03 FFL)

59/66, legal with no GL...detachable mags legal w/US part game played. No longer C&R eligible.

M59, same as above...once you take the GL off the 59/66 you basically have a M59 with a gas shut off on the gas block....

Its all about whether you NEED it to be C&R or not and if you played the 922(r) US parts game correctly for detach mags.

If you have an SKS that actually says "SKS" on the receiver (aka Russian) you can not have detachable magazines because "SKS with detachable magazine" is a named banned gun under the original Assault Weapons Control Act. If your Yugo SKS "style" Zastava does not have a grenade launcher it can have a fixed magazine of 10 rounds or less or a detachable magazine.

One must still comply with Federal 922r however.
