So I got a turkish mauser from a friend that was in need of some help, the stock was covered in gunk, the front sight was loose, and the firing pin spring was dead (lots of light primer strikes).
So... the issue
After striping the stock for the second time, an outlined green number "25" showed up on the left side of the stock about 2.5 inches tall. BUT, it's almost completely faded now, what does this mean? The other thing, I've found multiple repairs done to stock, but all were done well enough to keep the stock. After striping and steaming the stock, the wood is beautiful.
All numbers match with the exception of the bolt.
With that said, I don't think itsgoing to have boat loads of collector value when I'm done and I'm thinking about doing a claw mount and scope. But I don't want to dice up the stock if its some rare training rifle. Plus the bore looks great!
Please give me your comments, concerns, advice.
I'll post up some pics for required gun porn when I'm able to
