7.62x54R Training Rounds

I have not tried this, yet. Seems like it might be a good alternative for my son to shoot (compared to the 180 GR. rounds that we've been using). I'll be able to test this myself in a couple of weeks or so. Anyone out there using this? Good, bad, indifferent?

Edit/Update 10/30/2011:
Finally got a chance the head out to the range with these. I'm not really sure what to say, except, I did not bring enough with us. After I gave a few a quick run through I switched back to the standard rounds so my son could use the training rounds. The 22 was lonely today, these rounds made a huge difference. Thanks everyone for the input, appreciate it.

I bought that Czech low recoil ammo. Have not had a chance to shoot it yet . I thought my wife and kids could also shoot my mosins one day. If they don't ban guns anytime soon....

True, it's around .29 cents versus .16 cents per round. I should probably clarify; aside from cost, anyone have thoughts on this stuff?

I have tried that ammo and the description on SG Ammo's web site is accurate. Almost no recoil, very loud, big flash. It is not very accurate beyond 50 yards though.

I got over 1k of it and my kids have shot hundreds, pretty accurate at 150 yards, it has a very low kick, loud bang and a good fire ball in the evening.

It is fun to mess with newbs to Mosins also, I will load up some regular ammo and let them shoot and when they are bragging on how much it kicked one of my kids will cycle through a full magizne of low recoil like it was nothing and will tell the newb something like.... after a while you get use to it.

50 yards is fine, we have other ammo for longer shots. Sounds like some good plinking ammo. Thanks.

those practice rounds are twice as expensive, and i've heard people nag and nag you should practice with the rounds you are going to really use.

For plinking i'd say go for the cheapest per round.

I would snag maybe 20-40 practice rounds if they had them at a local gun store. but not a box of 260 rounds . lol

That's pretty much it. I noticed that my son was favoring the 22 towards the end of the last outing. With the standard 7.62 rounds he was doing okay, while standing up. However, when seated at the bench he was feeling some kick. He won't complain about the regular rounds, but for our simple plinking purposes it will be nice to have some alternatives with us next time. I had already ordered some of this stuff but I also wanted to get some feedback. Thanks again all for the input.

The Czech training ammo is lead core but magnetic from the bi-metal jacket, Keep that in mind with any restrictions your local range may impose.

Thanks, I saw that. I figured that even the normal surplus (spam can stuff) would be restricted at burro/angels/lytle. For now, we've got somewhere that this stuff will be fine at. I've bought -- and will buy again -- some of the expensive stuff for times where we might end up at a range that restricts steel.
