    CMP question?

Ok, read lots of threads, want to here a definitive answer to addressed to me so this is a forum, right?

So the CMP rifles (03, garand, carbine, .22, etc) are offered for sell directly?

Meaning no FFL or DROS or waiting period (oh, yes that last part is a joke as I have seen the waiting period being in excess of 60 days according to some threads, now that is a waiting period!)

So it is shipped by shipper (UPS, FEDEX, WHO?) to your door directly by CMP direct sell?

    And for the hard part.

The requirement is a CMP eligible organization?

So I live in the Eastbay. Which organization would you recommend. I looked at the ones at the CMP site and the closest seems to be the Diablo ROTC high school thing which I would be eligible I guess if I had a son young enough for ROTC high school.

Anyone recommend a CMP eligible organization in the NorCal Eastbay without to hard of requirements to joining and then wanting to stay a member.

Ideally it would be an organization that would use CMP and other means to attract members that would be an opportunity to for them to attract more members and not be one that needs new members so they have newbies to pick up litter and do menial tasks.

Looking for answers and help finding a worthy organization to join.

    THANKS EVERYONE!

Yes, I want and 03, I want 2 garands, I want 3 carbines, and why not a 1911 of four 1911's for CMP?

    THANKS EVERYONE!

http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/clubSearch.cgi - specify 'national' for type to see Nationwide clubs.

Everything is on the CMP web site.

Well, you might have missed the boat on the 03's decent ones at least. And they don't sell any kind of pistol. Everything you need should be on the pages ocabj listed. Good luck, and remember, CMP rifles are a sickeness....

Try Diablo Rod and Gun Club (http://www.diablorodandgun.com/). They're part of United Sportsmen Inc. located at 4700 Evora Rd. in Concord. They are an open member club. Show up at the next monthly meeting and sign-up. Next meeting is November 1st at 7:30pm.

Anyone know of a qualifying open membership club in the LA area, preferably in the South Bay?

Garand Collectors Association is also a good club to join. I think you can sign up over the web, they send the membership list to the CMP every week or so, and the quarterly news magazine is excellent and very educational.

The bad news is 03 are out until 2009 and carbines will be tougher to get in the future. The good news is it looks like there are still plenty of Garands and plenty of 30-06 to feed those Garands.

Also, no DROS but the processing time can take a while. You have to be patient but you'll get a nice rifle and help out a great organization.

Join any "affiliated organization" as long it's not the CRPA. Read here for details: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=73228

To fulfill the "marksmanship activity" requirement, shoot a local match and provide your score sheet. Or get a C&R FFL. C&R FFL will take the least amount of physical effort. I got mine in 9 working days.

If you are a member at Chabot or Richmond, you already qualify.

                  Sorry everyone.

I forgot to reply with a big thank you for you all taking time to respond to my question. I have saved this thread and am starting to look into these suggestions to see if one will work for me as I am not ready to make a CMP purchase a big membership project at this time.

Anyone else have some other suggestions to add to my list to research?

Thanks in advance and again thanks to everyone who took time to read this thread and a special thanks to those who responded so kindly.
