I'm old. I don't see as well as I used to before I began to wear glasses. I hate 'em, as I can't see my feet anymore--not due to my belly. It's these danged lenses: my eyes want to look through them instead of paying attention to the periphery.
Iron sights are a challenge if the target is pretty the small.
So, I bought a peep sight for my Finn 1941 MN VKT m39. It screws on in the place of the existing u notch sight. Now I can place the front blade properly, as the circle of the peep gives me the perspective I need to center the shot. With the u notch sight, getting right to left is really easy, but my old eyes put some kind of fuzz on top the front blade, so I can't really tell elevation for precision shooting.
Enter the peep sight.
These pics result from both the peep sight and my handloads--and the fact that I was shooting at 50 meters. The load was a 180 gr gas checked, cast round nosed boolit on top of 13.6 grains Unique. Since the case was not nearly filled, I packed on top of that a little pillow stuffing. Some folks say Unique is not position sensitive. It may very well be. Out of 40 rounds with two rifles, I only got one round that I could not predict what it did. Any pillow stuffing information would be welcomed.
This was 23 rounds of the handloads; the other 17 rounds went into an MN carbine.
You can see how at the first, I had the rear sight set on 150 meters, the lowest setting on this m39. By the time I walked the impact up into the middle of the card, the sight was set three notches above the 200 meter setting. You can see how many shots I did at each setting as the POI gets closer to the middle of the card.
Heck, it was hard even to make out the whole card at 50 meters, so I used a marker to put a black square on the tape so I could see the center.
This pic is so you can see the whole rifle.

Here's a tighter close up of the entire target.

Here's the card minus its tape so you can see the peep sight.

Here's the carbine from an earlier pic session, with the Maple Mauser on top:

Shooting stuff is fun.
I mailed a couple friends on here, but I didn't give enough notice for guys to make plans. I hope I can do the notification earlier next time.
What a great way to start the day, shooting stuff!
