    Black powder cannon legal?

Did a search and here and didnt find anything. Are homemade black powder cannons in .177cal legal in california? There is no primer or firing pin. Iginited with a small cannon fuse and black powder. I wanna make one at work just for fun but didnt want to run into any problems. Iknow zip guns are illegal but I dont think this falls under that definition.

Any help, links would be appreciated.

I'd nose around a legal website and read CA Penal Code 12020 for starters and see what you read. I want to say no, but if it shoots something I think someone somewhere might have a problem with it.

Black powder, non-fixed ammunition. It's not even legally a firearm.

Somebody was shooting one at the Metcalf range in San Jose about a month ago. Its a County range, so if it was illegal they definately would not have been firing it. It was pretty cool to watch.

Hey nick If you make one for me I'll compensate you for time and materials. I promised my girlfriend a while back I'd get her a cannon.

I bought a .177 cannon a few years ago. It only uses a fuse to expell the round and it's fun to play with.

They are legal, oherwise we would have problems at Civil War reenactments with full size cannons and mortars.

Awesome thanks for the feedback guys. I'll play around with the idea of making a few. I'll let you know if I decide to start selling them.

I'll take a picture of mine when I'm done.

With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

We won't be using .177 caliber cannons at Moorpark. I don't think te OP is ready to take on building a 3" gun yet.

So my quarter bore swivel gun is legal here? Well that is good news. I was worried after reading here that a guy got busted for a carbide cannon.
Now I just need to find a place to shoot it.
