where to get a mossin carbine

hey all, ive been looking into mossins for a while now and think im pretty set on a carbine length but cant find anywhere locally within 50-60 miles (of Chico, ca) that stocks or will get that wont charge me about a much as the rifle after shipping, and all their bs blah blah blah.. LOL (huntingtons oroville wanted 100$ to dros anything ordered in, or from somewhere like gunsamerica)

any ideas? or am i going to end up settling for a full 91/30 with laminant stock (big 5)?

Just get a laminated 91/30 and be happy, cause you will. Carbines tend to be less accurate as well as more expensive.

Calguns.net Marketplace. It's C&R so you can FTF transfer them without dealers.

By carbine, i imagine you mean an M39 / M44?

I say get the laminated 91/30 first, then wait for a m38 or m44 to show up on in the marketplace, or local gun store consignment later. The supply of m38's and m44's have dried up, and they have been a little more difficult to find. If you get a full length 91/30, I'm sure you'll fall in love with it just the same as a carbine.

i was looking at the m39's to be more specific.. sorry, still figuring out all the little differences between them all..

looks like the 91/30 is the way to go than, and the market on carbines going dry def. would explain the cost and how hard they are to find! i have the feeling there's still a stock pile of them somewhere in Europe that hasn't been tapped into yet, guess we'll have to wait and see

The M-39 is from Finland and those havent been imported in years. They were made in much lower numbers which explains the prices. They are out there for less than $300. Try local shows.

The 91/30 is pretty much everyone's first Mosin, and in some cases like OHOD, and myself, they're our be-all-and-end-all's. Finn's and the others are nice collectables, but for out of the box fun shooting it's hard to beat the price and laughs a 91/30 affords you.

AIM has some m44's right now. Price is definitely higher than it used to be, but I'm sure they'll keep going up from here on out. I'd try to a cheaper FFL too. $100 for an transfer is a little high IMO. I happily pay $75, but there are FFL's that charge as low as $50 (or so I've heard).

Don't forget to polish all the blue off with a belt sander and paint the stock red...

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Yes, Huntington's is "a little high" on everything.

                          1. It's spelled "Mosin."

                          2. There is a Big 5 in Chico, I believe.

                          3. Know your Mosins before you buy. Not all of them are carbines. M39 are not. Start with a regular 91/30 from Big 5 or from another shooter, see if you like it.

                          4. Get your FFL03, and have your Mosins shipped directly to your doorstep.

If you think you might get more than one rifle, do this.

I agree about getting your C+R. It took me about 3 monthes to get mine. Then check Gun Brokers. There are always M38s and M44s for sale there.
