    Norinco SKS?

Are Norinco SKSs still legal for sale here in Kali? For some reason I thought they had been banned.

If still legal, are they worth $250-300?

????????????? Bayonets have never been an "evil feature" as far as Ca. law is concerned and the Federal bill sunsetted in '04.

The Norinco WITH THE REMOVABLE AK-STYLE mag was the one banned...not the run of the mill Norinco SKS that resembles the Yugo & russian & bulgarian........

This is a different ban. It's the executive order signed by Bush I. I think it was in response to the Chinese selling arms to countries that were supposed to be embargoed. If you can prove that your Chinese SKS was purchased or possessed before the ban then having a bayo on your Chinese SKS is legal. That's something that's going to be hard to prove.

Will anybody make a big stink? I don't know but most dealers are loathe to sell you a Chinese SKS with a bayo (pre-import ban or not)

The one I saw sitting in the rack did have a bayonet on it. I have no idea when it was brought in the country, though.

Yes, they're legal with fixed mags. $250 and up is what clean ones are going for these days. They're great guns - it's like a stripper clip Mini-30 for half the price.

I know everyone misses the days of the $89 SKS, and if you find any, be sure to let the rest of us know. Finding a decent condition non-Yugo SKS for under $200 is a rarity these days.

I remember getting mine from SPWI (Special Products West Inc.)....remember their ads in the Recycler back in the day??.....for $99 or so. I took a hacksaw to the Bayo lug as well as the top of the front sight guard loop.

I've had yugo's and norinco's... and IMHO the yugo's are way better. YMMV

chrome lined barrels are the only thing the norinco's have going for them, Yugo's are typically very well put together and the component pieces seem to have nicer workmanship.

Nothing wrong with a norinco... I just prefer the yugo myself.

SKS with fixed magazines are legal in PRK. Also, if you want to get a Yugo, be sure to have the person selling it to you takes off the grenade launcher. Grenade launchers are a big no-no here.

I heard Yugo SKS are much more beefier (aka more weight also) but lack a chromed barrel. The chrome helps if you forget to clean your barrel while shooting milsurp corrosive ammo; otherwise, the chrome doesnt matter much.

I would be astonished if any of the money spent on a Chinese SKS today went to the Chinese government. I'm sure it did many years ago when they cleared out their surplus, but that water's long under the bridge. It's not like they're manufacturing SKS' for export today.

Might as well say you're supporting Nazis by buying a Luger.

No doubts there's some truth to what you've said about the age ta' money issue. I still just take issue with the fact that the idea of supply/demand pipeline was clogged rightously with Norinco everything for quite some time...but I think you are indeed right- the communists got thier pay long long ago........
