    Need some I.D. help

Not finding much on the internet in regards to a gun my uncle wants to give me.

He says it is Italian made and fires a 735 bullet. I think he means 7.35 which the only company I can find is Carcano on the internet. He can't see too well and lives up in Portland area so I can't get up to see if for awhile.

Was there another Italian gun maker that did the 7.35 caliber weapon or just Carcano?

My uncle obtained the rifle in the 1950's from a guy who said he got it in the 30's if that helps but then again my uncles memory is not the best.

    Thanks in advance!

Most likely a m38 Carcano 7.35 caliber carbine or rifle -- An Italian service rifle/carbine. Most, if not all made at Terni.
I doubt it got here in the thirties, as it was entered into service c1938 and then removed from service early in WWII as it complicated ammo distribution having two service calibers 6.5 and 7.35
Most were sold here in the early sixties, mine cost about $12 for a near new m38 carbine with folding bayonet. I think most, at that time, came from finland.
I suppose one could be a battlefield pickup, but I doubt it.

Sorry no clue what it looks like at this time. Uncle is 80 years old and not of much real help.

Knowing this uncle it could be a rusted out twisted piece of metal or in unfired pristine condition. To him both look the same LOL!

And thank you all that responded!

Hope it's a good one Shellshocker!

So is the Carcano a MN knockoff or what? Looks like a Mosin to my untrained eyes.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

The gun on top is a Mosin Nagant M44, so you can see some differences. The Carcano uses a Mannlicher type magazine that requires a charger to load. It then drops out the bottom after the final round is fired. This one doesn't have the cool folding bayonet that some Carcanos have.

Teyr M95's have the clip drop out of the magazine as well. I think that's kind of cool.
                Nice Mosin you got there.

Yea, the 3rd one down is a Steyr M95 and uses a drop through charger.
