    M1 Garand Clip ejecting early..

I finally took the Garand out to the range last weekend and fired some rounds off.. Shoots straight but after the first clip it kept ejecting the clips with two or three rounds left.. Anyone know what I need to do?

Timing is off Dont know how to fix it though. Find Clancy and give him a PM.

      There are several possabilities..

      1. Bullet guide lug is out of spec.

      2. Op rod spring is weak

      3. Clip latch spring is weak (this will also let the clip spit out after only 2-3 rounds as well)

I vote bad clip latch spring first and op rod spring second. That's a good thing though... new clip latch springs can be found for less than $5.00. A new op rod spring isn't too much more than that. Orion 7 has both springs, new. They have a great stainless OP rod spring available that I use to replace all my op rod springs in all my M1's.

I'd suggest cleaning first before diagnosing anything as bad or broken.

You'd be surprised at what one piece of dirt or grit in the right place at the wrong time can do to the function of a gun. While it probably IS a bad spring, it wouldn't hurt to make sure the firearm is cleaned and greased/oiled properly before replacing.

It probably doesn't need to be said, but I've seen some people support their M1s with the hands just in front of the reciever. If you flinch or move your hand enough your thumb could sweep the clip latch and throw the clip. Probably not the case but it COULD cause this problem so make sure that's not it.
