After all of my ranting on buy American I am trying to work a deal on a Big 5 91/30 Mossin that a co-workers kid has. He won't let him shoot it because they took the stock off and it had a pit about .200" deep somewhere in the barrel. This sounds pretty deep if the .200" estimate is correct. Any experiences or comments on Mossin barrels with large pits would be appreciated. As usuall I'm trying to work a cheapo deal since he is affraid to shoot it anyway. I'm sure pits are common. I might have him take a wax impression and measure it on our comparitor at work. At least give him some useable info to work with. Otherwise the kids Christmas present is just a wall hanger. I would have taken it back to Big 5 but they didn't find it for 2 or 3 months after the original purchase and now its been 9 months or so.

The blessings I experience every day are far better than the wrath I deserve.
Thankfully, there is no such thing as karma.
Proof being that if it did exist we would all most assuredly be dead

See if I am understanding, a pit inside the barrel. .2 - would be 2 tenths of an inch. .250 tenths would be 1/4 inch? I wouldn't fire it!
Although, I have fired rifles that were pitted (no measure of depth) and they were fine. I understand pitting can affect accuracy. Good luck. -
No, the pit is on the outside somewhere under the stock. The more I think about it the more I think he must be over estimating its depth? Like you said, thats just short of a quarter inch. I'm going to look at it but I will probably pass unless its only .200 wide and only .010 deep ?Last edited by Shorthair; 09-03-2011, 7:20 AM.karma ?
