3 ring binder as a log book ?

I have recently logged my first C&R. I see others talking about using printed pages 3 hole punched for use in a ring binder for a log book. Anybody have any first hand experience with an ATF audit using this method for record keeping ?
    Thanks

    I just use this http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1...S_RECORD_BOOKS
$3 and you don't need to worry about if the ATF will be okay with it.

this. how many transactions are you planning on doing with your C&R. Even if you happen to drive to a show and pickup 20 firearms, it will take you at most a couple hours to write down all the pertinent info.

I can't understand why people will spend hundreds if not thousands on C&R's and a gun safe, but are too cheap to purchase a $3 firearms record book.
It reminds me of all the times that I had to take bike theft reports where people spent $1000+ on their bike and then locked it up with a $5 lock and couldn't understand how it got stolen so easily.

Ummm... No, a 3 ring binder or spiral notebook are NOT ok. The requirement is for a bound book. Loose leaf isn't bound. The purpose is to make it difficult to remove pages from your book without leaving evidence. You can't do that with a 3 ring binder.

                  um, yes it IS ok.

or an orderly arrangement of loose-leaf pages which must be maintained on the business premises. The format must follow that prescribed in the regulations, and the pages must be numbered consecutively.

Mine is in a 3 ring, using pages copied from a computer program. I keep them on my laptop, print it out (including photos) and put it in the binder. I showed it to an ATF Supervisor, he said, and I quote, "Perfect".....

Every FFL I have talked to says no. And when I called the ATF, they said no. Of course, that may be worth as much as calling the DOJ here, but I would rather err on the side of caution. Besides, it costs maybe a buck to get a bound notebook at office depot.

I have a hard back book that was originaly intended to be used as a diary or journal. Its has no title on the cover and the pages are lined. I have entered the appropriate information in it neatly with black ink under the heading "Fireams Acquisition and Disposition Record", sub-heading "Acquisition". At the bottom I wrote "page 1" and at the bottom of the next page which is still blank I wrote "page 2". My reputation for being cheap is still safe because my Mom gave it to me several years to write about my feelings or some crap like that. Instead I use it to record gun transactions. Love you Mom, you saved me 3 bucks and a trip to walmart.

If your going to make your own, you need to use the proper format.
See the format at the bottom of this page.

You do know that 3 ring binders bind things, right. That's why they call them binders. Once you bind something...it is bound.

I was audited earlier this year--about sixty pages in a binder as my bound book. No problem at all. (The auditors did have a few misconceptions in regard to 01 vs. 03FFL, such as the requirement of turning in my bound book if I didn't renew my license, but they didn't even mention the format of my records.)
