Well, I couldn't wait. I went to AmmoBros with a friend over lunch and picked myself a nice M44. All the ones they have look like they are in very good shape. The rifling looked good to me, the stocks all seem very good and while I didn't check everything, it looks like the numbers were matching.

It was worth the few extra bucks over Big 5 so A)I didn't have to buy at Big 5(I have a personal thing against buying guns from them again), B)I got to look at a number of them and picked the one that looked the best and C)They were all in great shape vs the ones I've seen at Big 5 which look considerably more used and abused. Not that I inspected them nearly as closely as the ones today, but you can tell they've had way more use.

Looks like it's going to be a fun shooter!

What's funny is that I'm more excited about this than I was when I picked up a couple of OLLs.

      Da, comrade?

I picked myself out a nice M44 from Wes' M-N stockpile last week, and plan to pick it up next week, but I'm a bit more excited about the POF .308 lower I'm picking up then, too!

yeah, I've had ARs since the early '90s, so getting new ones that are neutered wasn't all the thrilling for me. I've never had an old, powerful battle rifle before, especially one for $100! I do have an M1 Carbine, and while old, can't be considered powerful. Super fun to shoot, though!

I wish I would have kept that target I shot with my M44 a while back. I shot two 5 shot groups at 50 yards. One with the bayonet folded and one with it extended. The group from the folded bayonet was nicely set about 4 inches to the left of the bullseye, and the group from the extended bayonet was almost dead on (Just a few inches high).
