I got to thinking, maybe I should bubba a rifle.

Which C&R rifle will not raise the hackles of C&R collectors, when the rifle get's bubba'd?

Please don't. Why not go "tacticool" , it's really the same thing except you don't ruin anything by doing it. Or you could build a custom and start shooting long range.....

SKS. not a russian, too rare. get a Yugo or Norinco and go to town, options are endless and there are tons of aftermarket stuff out there for them. bubbing any bolt action beyond drilling and tapping for a scope mount is mostly pointless and done for looks or no reason.

that works as well and then you don't feel bad modifying something that was all original. problem is that most C&R barreled Receivers are not in the greatest of shape or else they would probably still be in their original finished condition.

Take one of your many Mosins (I've seen some of your pics) and put on a Monte Carlo stock, hammer off the rear leaf site and put on a 3/8 to 1" rings scope mount, or picatinny rail adaptor and a scope and you'll have tons of fun with it. None of these mods are permanent, no drilling, tapping or otherwise modifying the rifle in such a way you couldn't put it right back together. If anyone has a problem with this, tell em to get lost

Seriously, it upsets me how much people talk smack (on the internet) about folks doing whatever they damn well please with their C&R firearms. We're all on the same team here, and my Mosin is bubba'd, proudly. It shoots and performs much better than it did before my work to it and I have substantially more fun with it now than when I first got it. I've never once had anyone say anything but "hey that's cool!" anytime I've been at the range with it, and don't suppose I ever would. Do what you dig, that's what I say. I'd love to come across the idiot who (in person) would have the nerve to tell me I disgraced an $80 rifle by making it better and more enjoyable to shoot. That's absolute lunacy to me.

This is a no-bubba way to bubba. The long eye relief scopes mounted using the rear sight base work well, with no permanent mods. The monte carlo stock is also not a permanent modification.

Alternately, you could buy a previously FUBAR'd C&R rifle and go to town on that. The value is already lost there, so no harm done no matter how hard you bubba it.

Just try to aviod using a complete C&R for your bubba project.

I third this point of view mam........ or you could just go all willy nilly and bubba a Garand ...... just kidding

That's what I did, no major changes but..... I did break the forearm wood and rings on the mosin just to remove the stock. I put an ATI stock on it. Only did the long eye relief mount on the mauser.
