I picked up my Mosin today, and absolutely love it. It is a 1940, numbers matching etc, very clean. I know it isnt worth much but SKS' were sold by the pallets years ago too. I purchased a Smith and Wesson M&P 15, Arsenal AK and picked up the Mosin because it was dirt cheap. I think I have been bit by the surplus bug! What other military surplus pieces are out there for sub $300?

There is a large variety of mosins and mausers that can be had for under $300, far too many to list. You can also find Steyr M95 carbines, and Swiss K31 rifles for under $300.

Almost anything in 9x18 will be under $300.

+1 on the Makarovs... best deal on the marker in my very humble opinion.

Hit up small gun shows in Northern California. Sometimes you get a lot of people selling there stuff for good prices. I seen C&R shotguns for $300 or lower.

That's true. I've found model 12's for $200. Of course, they weren't beauty queens by any stretch of imagination, but I was still surprised to see them that low.

If you love the 91/30 then you really ought to get an M44 too. Same cheep ammo but with free fireballs.

Why don't old 1903 Springfields sell for cheap? We did make quite a few of them. Is it because they are Americana?

To follow with SoCal Bob's excellent suggestion of an M-44, if you like those then the natural transition is to get a Finnish M-39 or maybe a Finn 91-30 with a Tikka barrel.

I just recently picked up a Swedish Mauser and loved it so much that I found another one in excellent condition for $250 at a shop in Livermore, so there are other deals to be had besides Mosins too.

There's plenty of fun stuff out there for $300 or less, or... if you decide you want to have a 10 rifle collection and figure to spend $300 per rifle and end up getting 4 of them for $150, you will have saved enough on those 4 to buy a GARAND!! How's that for logic??

I think the Russians made far more Mosins, than the US made M1903's is my guess.

A lot of 1903's were welded/cut up beyond shootability by our government for drill rifles. Some innovative people have learned how to restore lightly welded receivers back to firing condition. A lot were also given the US allies and are now nothing but rusting iron rods.

As far as sub $300, Yugo Mausers and many other Mausers are available. Having owned a Mosin Nagant before a Mauser I can say once you hold a Mauser you can tell why modern bolt actions are usually a Mauser copy today. They were the pinnacle of bolt action design. +1 on getting a Garand though. The CMP supply won't last forever. The service grades are worth every penny of that $600 and then some.

CZ-82 and K-31 should also be on the list. Im actually trying to sell my makarov right now since my CZ-82 is more lefty friendly. $275 with 128 rounds or $250 for just the gun.

how about a lee enfield =P fastest bolt action there is and I've seen a couple go for 150-300 on the forums !!!
