SKS Great Rifle

The first time I took it to the firing range not that good at 50 yards hitting the 8" target, this time I adjusted the sights 4" group at a 100 yards.

Nice. What brand ammo were you using? Most people just take an sks off the shelf, shoot it, and say it's a piece of junk. Glad to hear you dialed it in to its potential.

an SKS in good condition is capable of even better. i've personally done a 2.5" group of 7 shots at 100 yards but that was with a scope although i was using cheap wolf FMJ black box ammo. some ammo does not agree with my Yugo at all i bought a box of Fiocchi FMJ thinking it should be better than the Wolf but it wouldn't group for crap with it the 2 times i tried it, once at 50 and the other time at 100 yards so i gave up on the stuff.

guys over on the sks boards will tell you they can pull off sub 2" @ 100. i agree its possible but very difficult to do with the stock trigger group the TG definitely hurts my accuracy with my Yugo and i plan on getting it worked on in the near future.

Granted, he was shooting .223 out of a tuned up AR-15 but this gives an idea of what Wolf can realistically do.

Im actually ashamed I dont own an SKS its one of my absolute favorite rifles out there and they can be fairly accurate besides being a total blast to shoot.

The only thing I do not like about the sks is seeing them tacti-cooled, its even more of a crime then seeing a mall ninja ak. Keep it simple!

nothing different that i cant switch in 10 min time but i will say that the ergonomics and balance are better with the tapco stock setup.

semi perm mods done are grenade sight removed and GL spigot removed, if a really wanted to spend the time restoring it to original aside from the 2 holes that are drilled and tapped for the scope mount everything else can be reversed on mine but not in CA (GL is illegal ofc)

I like my SKS okay, I've owned and sold several but the Paratrooper is the only one I kept. I liked the Yugo least -- the huge pipe on the end just makes an already-heavy rifle even heavier.

But, with the rising cost of them in the past few years, I'd steer new buyers to a Saiga. They're new, they work, and they have a choice of calibers along with detachable magazines.

I don't see the lack of a detachable magazine a problem, mine is original and loads with stripper clips. BUT it seems that everybody wants to put a detachable hi-cap magazine on them. They often don't work well and they make the rifle less handy.

I love my sks. Its a sino soviet with no import mark. The only thing I don't like is cleaning it. So many parts compared to my ak
