    MN 91/30 Shooting Low?

Hey guys! I have an interesting experience. Maybe you can shed some light on it. I just acquired a Izzy 91/30 expediency rifle from Classic Arms and took it out for the first time yesterday. To my surprise, with the sights set at 100 meters, it shot about a foot low at 100 yards. I'm used to these things shooting high at 100 yards. Any ideas? I'm not complaining as I can adjust the rear leaf up to compensate but this is a bit confusing.

Try screwing your Mosin rock tight. Tighten the Tang screw and Mag screws because they come lose sometimes with the kicking. Try working at 25, 50 yards and up and see your grouping to see what to work with.

    dont forget B.R.A.S.S

What grain ammo you're shooting? If you're shooting the 200 grain stuff, that might be why.

are you shooting offhand or from a benchrest?

sometimes i compensate for the recoil when i am shooting offhand by tipping the gun down right before i squeeze.

Bayonet affects horizontal point of impact, as 91/30's were sighted with their bayonet attached (Soviet doctrine...), so it's worth actually leaving that on, unless you plan on adjusting the sight for shooting without it. (Question #15 here)

One thing to consider is that you're shooting at 100yds, yet your sights are 100m.

Adjust accordingly, and find your ammo on here and check the ballistics profile on it. You'll get a decent guestimate of where to aim in order to account for the flight path of the round.

Ive seen slow motions videos of people shooting M91's When they pull the trigger the barrel goes low or high before the projectile even flies out.

                      This is true.

There are options out there for bedding the barrel on a Mosin. It's pretty well documented on YouTube.

Another thing to consider is the trigger pull on it - it's usually pretty beastly; doubtlessly throwing off your aim a little. You could replace it with a Timney trigger (although it needs stock modification and it'll set you back around $70), or you can get a small washer, file and spring from a staple remover (or similar) and modify the pull on your existing trigger.

Be careful with that though, as if you take it down too far then the trigger will fail to hold the bolt in place when you're cycling.

I'll second the ammo. my M44 and 91/30 group great with yugo ammo but the 203gn hunting round won't even be on a 14x14 target at 100yds.

the M44 will be 3" high and 3" right with the bayonet folded closed.

I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow. As for the low shots, I'm still at a loss. I shoot the same ammo in my M38 and it shoots high at 100 yds. the 91/30 shoots low. I have the rear sight on both set at 100 meters, so i would expectit to shoot high. I'm not worried about it, but just found it to be odd.
