I ordered a Field Grade H&R and 192 rounds to go with it. Ya I know Service Grade is only 100 more. I'm cheap and I like to live life on the edge, what can say?? I will post pics when it shows up, around Labor Day or so?

What are you doing in the meanwhile, waiting?...
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

How do you sticky an order with CMP ?
How do you put a sticky on your order? I am assuming they send an e-mail when the order is recieved and thats when you can put a sticky on it?? I have considered changing it to a Service Grade and foregoing the ammo but I think I am going to sweat it out and hope for the best on a FG. Some of the guys on the CMP forums act like you might get a rotten 2x4 for a stock on the FG's but I am hearing mostly good things overall on Calguns and the less hardcore types on CMP about FG's. I don't intend to shoot it competitely. If it is acurate enough for me to be comfortable deer hunting at 100yrds or less that will be plenty good enough for me. If the barrel is total crap I can change it out in a year or 2. My Dad was on a Garand rifle team in Germany in the late 50's so I am hoping 3 years of having the Garand drilled into his head will come back quickly and he can be my tutor as we clean it up. P2000 has the 100 yrd indoor range just a couple of miles from dads house so after it is cleaned up and drooled over I hope we can go burn some of that Greek ammo together.karma ?

Just realized that whether the Garand that shows up is a Cadillac or clunker it will be my first and (so far) only C&R that I will need to enter in my log book.karma ?

Changed my order from FG H&R to SG. FYI, I gave up trying to get through to CMP on the phone after 90 minutes. E-mailed and had all my order changes done in 1 hour. Seem like great people to deal with so far.karma ?

Smart move. While there are some FG that actually grade better than they should a big majority of them are in need or a rebarrel.
I have handled many hundreds of them at the North Store and have found a few Gems but they are few and far betweenComment

When you do the order and mail them the paper work you put a sticky note with what you want on the pages of your order form. Usually you can request stuff like gi wood or WWII serial number. The sticky is no guarantee that you will get what you asked for.How do you put a sticky on your order? Sounds like your heading in the right direction. The 30-06 from the cmp is the way to go for the price and its loaded for the Garand. You never want to use commercial ammo in your grand. it will probably destroy it. Unless you get a adjustable gas plug.
Good luck post pics when you get her

They are showing sold out for the service grades on the cmp site. The regulars are saying don't worry that the e-store usually cuts off sales while they are still sitting on enough inventory to fill existing orders and probably even the ones traveling in the mail. I sure do hope this is true. Fingers and toes crossed.Last edited by Shorthair; 08-10-2011, 5:37 PM.karma ?

I saw that. I read into it that they might not have all that many service grades going out because things in the upcoming inventory weren't all that great. I have no clue as to how many orders they process/ship a day as it relates to the number of actual rifles that are in the pipe line that they control?karma ?
