    C&R stuff at Big5?

So for those of us without C&R licenses, are the old rifles like the M44s at Big 5 still cash and carry or is there a 10 day wait?

Many years ago(early 90s) I seem to remember that C&R type stuff was cash and carry.

All FFL-01's have to do the 10 day wait because that is whats mandated by the whole DROS thing. The only cash and carry stuff is person to person and more than 50 years old.

In CA, if your buying a C&R rifle from a FFL01 dealer (such as Big 5), you still have to DROS and wait 10 days, whether you have a C&R license or not.

If you have a C&R and Certificate of Eligability (CoE) then you can take the rifle home the same day, but you still pay the $25 DROS.

You're better off ordering your M44 from out-of-state dealers like Classic Arms with your C&R license.

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

At my local Big 5 all they have is junk junk junk junk.

I have been to other Big 5's and like when I bought my Turkish way back when I recommend shopping at several as the quality really really varies and the willingness of the lowly paid sales clerk to get out several boxes so you can look at them all varies even more. Its as if they have something better to do than service a customer, and keep in mind they are Big 5 so it is not like there are allot of customers, most likely they want to sneak out back and catch a smoke and be paid to do that smoking.

            Slim pickings

Big 5 hasn't had anything good in awhile. They always have Mosins. I recently got a Yugo 24/47 for $99.00. I don't even see Enfields there anymore. It's hard to believe that once they had K98s and K31s.

Got a really nice M44, matching serials on bolt, barrel and receiver. Stock is real nice as well. Took me 2 hours to detail strip and clean the whole deal. Going to take it to the range tomorrow for a bit and break her in again.

im waiting for the mosin/59 to come back on sale again....i didn't like the one at the local shop...i'll have to try another store (for better quality)....

                  good luck in your search.

Also, it is very unlikely that the guy/girl behind the counter at Big5 has any idea what a C&R license or a CoE mean. Out of state is best.

The milsurp quality is really lacking from this time last year. I was responsible for about 10 Mosin purchases at 1 Big5 store (including my 2). The first couple of months, all clean, numbers matching, non counterbored. The last couple of months, mismatched, counterbored and beat up. I think the Mosins may be drying up, seems like most of the good ones are gone.

Don't know if it is true, but I was told at one time they had tons of Garands and SKS as well.

I know they still sell SKSs at the out of state stores.

The manager of the store that I bought my Mosins at was showing his off to me. He was still in the 11 day waiting period. Employees can order them, but they can't sell them to the public.

I remember Woolworths in the mall having ARs, AKs, Uzis, Mac-10s and all sorts of evil, nasty toys back before the AWB.

Sadly, those days are long gone...

Finnish M39 are chambered in 7.62x54R just like the Russian Mosins.

its not a bad deal considering no ffl needed. and ammo is uber cheap. a little pricee for me though.
