    8mm Mexican Match

Anyone tried with the corrosive, brass cased, berdan primed stuff(Yugo)?

By my math, should be able to load new powder and match bullet for about 75 cents a round...too tempting for me not to try it. I will only have a few thousand rounds left if I screw up a box or two of them.

Ummm... Can I buy a vowel here? Your post seems to just jump in and not give us much information. WTF is a Mexican Match 8mm? What are you trying to do? If you are pulling apart old ammo to make new stuff, I think you are going about it the wrong way. Most people want to get rid of the old primer, and reuse as much of the rest as they can. The powder should still be fine, as should the bullet. The two things that are most likely to be problematic are the primer and the brass cass. If the brass is getting green, it isn't worth saving. If it is berdan primed, it is more trouble than it is worth most of the time. The primers can deteriorate over time, and are most likely corrosive. If you are looking at making match grade ammunition, start with fresh stuff. If you want plinking ammo, pull the bullets and powder, and toss the rest. 8mm brass is readily available, and not all that expensive.

"Mexican Match" Is generally where you take cheap ammo, pull the bullet and replace it with a proper match bullet. Some folks go a little farther and dump the powder and recharge each case to make sure the are uniform, or replace the powder all together.

          Primers are usually not involved.

This would be a huge effort, as all 8mm surplus ammo is berdan primed, and not easily reloadable.

Yes, it can be done, but Berdan primers are not generally available.

If you want to reload for 8mm, go to Grafs and get some new brass for about $40/100

Silhouette shooting originated in Mexico, FYI.

The plan would be to pull bullets, dump powder and replace with premium components.

Throw the brass out when fired. Would be fairly cheap. Problem is, commercial load data is so weak for 8mm...I gestimate the velocity of the military ammo to be 2-300 fps faster than published load data for bullet weight, judging by bullet drop at 500m.

How 'bout you use terms that are more common, and be more clear in your posts? If you want to get snippy because somebody didn't follow your tangential thought patterns, maybe you better learn how to use a public board before you post any more. My answer was in response to the part of your post that actually made sense.

If you don't have anything to add please stop posting in this thread. I am looking for others with knowledge/experience on this topic.

Mexican Match is what the match shooters call it...I've used 30-06 a friend loaded in a match but never made my own. I have handloaded thousands of rounds, just not any 8mm.

He is right, Mexican Match is what it is called. Been that since the days before political correctness.....

All of the hoorah aside the suggestion to save the powder and bullets from the Yugo ammo and start with new brass and primers is valid. The Yugo bullet is boat tail and pretty accurate. The 11 54 cases have been known to fail and the primers are hard and sometimes need two tries to ignite. Try modern boxer brass, magnum primers and the same bullet and reuse the powder with the exact charge of original powder. Pulling and re-seating the bullet to match your rifle's throat will also contribute to the accuracy. The magnum primer will make up for the slightly lower pressure from using thinner walled commercial cases.

Yes I do know about Mex match ammo. I did silhouette shooting in the early 80s when folks still did it with their hunting rifle off season.

Have you not bothered to read what I wrote? I gave you a quick synopsis of what you could do, and what parts of the ammo were worthwhile to save. You are getting your panties in a twist because you posted something semi-coherently, and I questioned your use of a non-common term. I have been reloading for 20 years and never heard it before. Others here appear to have heard it. That is why we have boards. You do not tell somebody not to post on a thread when their responses have either been relevant, or repostes to your rude comments. If you can't put on your big boy pants and play nice, it is you that may need to refrain from posting.

Kind of a "feralcat" load instead of a "wildcat' load?

Oh yes we do have a Ammo & Reloading Forum on CGN, too!

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

I have never done this, but I do have a .308 load that works very good. Does that help?
