I had a hard time freeing up that firing pin, I boiled it didn't work, lacquer thinner worked, I was hoping I didn't have to take it apart. Got everything back together I love it I will take it out Monday.

You'd better still tear down the bolt. I wouldn't shoot it till you do. Excess cosmo in the firing pin channel can cause slamfires. Just buy a punch and get a hammer. Do it right. Instructions here.

Yeah, I would err on the side of caution here. Failing that, I would soak the bolt in mineral spirits, and then blast it clean with carburator cleaner. That probably will get the gunk out. The one problem I hear about again and again on different boards is the firing pin sticking and things going full auto when the bolt is closed. Oh, and for the record, I am jealous. My yugos look like they were all rode hard and put away wet.

i never had to remove the firing pin on my unissued yugo. i soaked it in mineral spirits for a few hours and then took it and plunged the firing pin back and forth while i watched cosmo stained mineral spirits come out and kept doing that until nothing came out. then i boiled it to be safe but that did not get any cosmo to come out as it was already cosmo free.

i've shot 250+ rounds through it now and no problems at all. i always check the bolt before i take it out though and use mineral spirits to degrease it because its not supposed to be oiled by design and oiling it can cause the firing pin to jam forward and also attracts crud from you ammo into the channel.

if the rifle appears to be unissued/unfired i honestly don't think a full tear down is necessary but better safe than sorry.

here is mine in its original stock (the finish is not complete on it yet, it never had a finish on the wood when it was new)

                    and in its tapco mode.

still waiting for my steel gas tube guard to come in so i can remove the wood one for safe keeping.

Good to know. I was eyeing a matching numbers Yugo today at Big 5 (along with a matching #s Yugo 24/47) and was wondering about cosmo removal for these specifically. Now to decide on a WASR/SKS combo or 24-47/M76 combo.

Trick I use for Cosmolene removal: get a few feet of 4" PVC pipe, glue a cap on one end & glue a fitting on other end that takes a screw-on cap. Remove stock and slip action down in the tube, add enough diesel fuel to do what you want & cap it to prevent spills. You can just soak trigger group end, or the whole gun, barrel & all.

The diesel fuel dissolves all Cosmoline in a couple of days & is a lightweight lubricant as well, and relatively cheap. You can then filter it through a coffee filter & add it to a full tank of diesel fuel and donate it to the atmosphere as you drive to the gun range.
