Idaho Penitentiary

I just got back from my vacation to boise, idaho one of the things I went and did was visit the idaho penitentiary and to my surprise they had a huge gun museum there. ALOT of C&R stuff and a few odd stuff i never saw before.

I thought I would post a pic of a couple of things i've never seen before and I was like whoa thats pretty damn cool!

now a luger is nothing special although pretty damn awesome but the mag on this is epic....


and what looks like 12guage with a huuuge bayonet is just strange i'd think the need of a bayonet is somewhat pointless?

The 12 guage is a winchester model 1897 trench shotgun. It was extremely effective in the trenches of WW1. It didn't have a trigger disconnector, so the soldier could just hold down the trigger and the shotgun would fire as fast as it was pumped. Because of it's effectiveness, Germany actually tried to get us to stop using this shotgun!

The "long" bayonet on the win 97 is the same one used on the m1917 enfield.
I believe the bayonet was manufactured again during the viet nam unpleasantness as original stocks had run out.

HERESY! All guns should have bayonets! and flashlights! and so-on and so-forth!

Is that a steel breastplate? I can't think of a cartridge in wartime use that would be stopped by that...

Those ridiculously long bayonets on the trench guns would definitely do the trick in a tight scenario too. You're already within 8-10 yards of these guys, why not finish them off with the Bayo...

I was there a few years ago. That is the J. Curtis Earl collection. He was a class 3 dealer back in the day. He was in Arizona, but later moved to Idaho.
When the MGM studio got rid of their full autos in the early 70's, he bought them and then sold them to the public. I have a catalog, but in those days I could not afford any of them.
If you are in Bosie, it's worth a visit.

It looks like WWI equipment. The shotgun has already been covered by the other posters. The breastplate was German. They used them as protection from shell fragments, mostly. And for close quarters combat in the trenches. Most types of armor like that were discarded by both sides early in the war when they figured out that they didn't work particularly well against modern rifle bullets. But remember, at that point in time, they didn't have as much experience with smokeless powder and high velocity rounds. They had had no major wars using them up to that point. It looks like a cool museum.
