    Mauser K98 question

    Hi,

I bought my k98 a few months back from Big 5 and then i bought the bayonet online. I got the bayonet and it turned out its somewhat bent and doesn't slide in straight, I have to force bend it to make it fit on the rifle's lug. Is there a way to fix this? Do i need to send this in to a gunsmith?

Maybe it was bent from being stuck in a Red...I wouldn't straighten it.

      Ans: Nope.
Pop the grips off w/ a screwdriver & straighten the shank w/ a vise & crescent wrench.

German K98 bayonets do not have the barrel loop. How smooth does the release button work. You might try Kroil or any light penetrating oil to get the release to function smoothly.

To straighten the blade to the hilt, just put the protected blade in a vice and bend the hilt with your hand. Removing the grips may require a special tool.

          good luck

The button is not smooth at all. And Its hard to remove the plates. I might have to try a vice, I dont have one so I might have to go to a neighbors house.. Ha ha, i like the bayonet, what a nice shank!
