Yeah, they were always advertising their 8mm romanian stuff. I did not expect them to be sold out of it.

But I guess the Yugoslavians made metric ***-tons of it, so we're probably still good for a while...

I guess I can't complain about the Yugo ammo its cheap enough I can tolerate the occasional misfire at the range. I have ~1300 rounds of the Romanian I can save for when the SHTF.

I guess I can't complain about the Yugo ammo its cheap enough I can tolerate the occasional misfire at the range. I have ~1300 rounds of the Romanian I can save for when the SHTF.

How far out have you taken that Romanian stuff? The accuracy falls apart after 200m, from my experience. Have shot it to longer distances (attempted to at least) and it just gets worse and worse the further out you go.

Yugo will hold 2ish MOA out to 500m in my scoped Gew Mauser. Good enough accuracy for what I do with it.

My evaluation of the Yugo vs Romanian ammo comes strictly from the fact that the Yugo has failed to go bang several times. Sometimes as much as half a box. Have not experimented with accuracy, but if it doesn't go bang, accuracy isn't even a factor is it? I got more powerful firing pin springs but haven't had the chance to try that yet. The primer strike on the Yugo ammo appeared to be deep enough regardless but still was not sufficient even after multiple strikes. I hope the new springs solve it. I've heard rumors that some of the bad Yugo ammo could be detected by year? The bad stuff I had was '53 but it doesn't look any different to me than some '56 I got recently. Primers don't appear to be any deeper etc.

I only use it to shoot mil-surp match so 100% reliability isn't an issue. It's an old warhorse and I treat it as such. Keep your AR/AK/M14/FAL etc. for 'the big day'.

The internet says that '53 Yugo is not any good but it shoots great for me with about a 10% failure rate...I can live with it for the fairly low price (a loaded round of Yugo costs as much as a 168 grain matchking!) and decent accuracy. Much easier and cheaper than handloading for yet another cartridge, is my reasoning.
